What gives, Mane?
As far as the music goes, this was without doubt the year of me embracing Leon Bolier like the hero he was. Heck, he kicked off the year for me through tracks that had been around a while before but which I hadn't heard until the first day of the new year (was in the hospital two weeks prior). Another artist that was gaining huge respect was Orjan Nilsen. On the one hand he brought forth a melancholic beauty like Gobstice. On the other hand he unleashed the beast known as Black Mamba. Black Mamba was one of three complete mind-blowers of that year (along Mojado - Kaktus and Ernesto vs. Bastian - Thrill) which I will never forget for the first times I heard all three of them were truly memorable moments. Each blew me away completely. To think that three such incomparable HOLYSHITWHATTHE(...)SICKKILLERTRACKISTHISFAAAAAAARK records could appear within one and the same year.... That's 2007 for ya ;) Another thing I loved about this year were the Rank 1 Remixes. No less than five of them revealed on ASOT! Granted, one was an alternative version to Life Less Ordinary and the other wouldn't be released until 2008 but eventually all of them rocked it for me (had to get used to that The Future Remix > was pretty disappointed at first, especially considering the brilliance of the original and Leon mixes, but grew to like it over the course of a few weeks).
Though 2007 was a great year music-wise, it wasn't the greatest year for developments in my personal life. Though after the disaster that was 2006, things were starting to look up gradually. Music-wise however both 2006 and 2007 are some of the most brilliant years of music I've ever experienced. I am not exaggerating! There was a certain freshness to these years that made my brother comment back then that we were already listening to some legendary tracks. And all these years later I can't deny the truth in the words he spoke way back: wouldn't want to anyway, he was as right as one can be! Earlier this year I realized that humanity might have already invented a time machine without really knowing it... Sure, it's not in the sense that sci-fi has popularized it but we have crafted a vehicle that allows us so temporary revisit the past (without distorting said past, or the future for that matter). Indeed: it's the music. When one goes through life listening to music on a daily basis, music and happenings in your life become deeply intertwined: a symbiosis of existence. A single track can stand synonymous to your general mood in a year or any given period of importance in your life. For me the Year Of All Years for music is 2007. Not 2003 (when my journey into Trance began) or 2005 (when most of the basis for my fandoms were shaped), despite both years being hailed as the (end of the) glorious "Golden Years" for Trance. Nope, I pick 2007. A year in which some things went wrong, some things went right but throughout all of it, I could just FEEL the air of better times approaching and better times DID approach eventually: 2008-2009 were two of the best years of my life till now, so many aspects of my life couldn't have been better! That said, 2007 was a metaphorical "End Of The Tunnel", a transitory period in which Darkness could be left behind and Light would follow soon. It is perhaps because of the upward spiral it represents in my mind that this year of music is Immortal to me. Hence I am sharing it with you now. And well... It would be handy to have this posted online in case I ever lose the printscreens of those yearlists... :P I will shut up now. Browse through the list and I hope you'll either remember some precious memories as you see the names or look them up. Otherwise I hope this list will have a few gems for you which you hadn't discovered before!
